My Speakers Sound Terrible, What's Wrong?
We understand that when people receive their speakers after ordering them from the internet, they're anxious to test them out and see if they work. In our experience, people are likely to just hook the speakers up to their receiver right away, before ever mounting them. It's a sure bet that they will sound like there is no bass at all. They'll sound tinny; worse than a cheap old clock radio!
Never fear! They're not defective! Flush-mount speakers are designed to be used in the wall. As a rule, any speaker needs an enclosure to make full range sound. Speakers need to take full advantage of the physical laws of the universe to work, the most important one being "for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction". When an electrical current comes down the speaker wire and into the speaker the "action" is to initially move the speaker forward or outward. The natural reaction to that 'action' is for the speaker to move back past the starting point and then backwards or inward. These actions and reactions create disturbances (sounds) in the front of the speaker, and subsequently, from the reaction, behind as well. Without being mounted, the reactions have nothing to reverberate off of… and those sounds cancel out.
Well how can I try them out? You can mount them into a box of about 3 cu. ft. or larger and take a listen. Or just go ahead and mount them in the wall and listen. It's fair to say that the sound will be 100% improved.
